THE COMPANY

Makhijafilm is dedicated to making auteur led cinema that pushes the boundaries of the familiar. We are the artist’s producer. Our strengths lie in recognizing and providing the environment most conducive to the creative process.

We live and labour in Andheri, Mumbai, the hub of moviemaking in India, and have worked with many of those responsible for spearheading pathbreaking change in an industry mostly resistant to it.

Makhijafilm has a line-up of ready scripts (feature length as well as short) of different genres. We are in conversation with several co-producers (both Indian and International) and are on the lookout for visionary producers, co-producers, investors and distribution partners willing to take this journey with us.

DEVASHISH MAKHIJA

Director & Producer

Devashish Makhija has written, directed and served as associate producer on ‘BHONSLE’ (Best Actor, APSA; Best Director & Screenplay, Barcelona); and ‘AJJI’ (Fresh Blood Best Film at Beaune, France, 2018; New Currents international competition, Busan). He had started his film career researching and assisting on ‘Black Friday’ (dir. Anurag Kashyap); and has written and directed the multiple award-winning short films, ‘Taandav’, ‘El’Ayichi’, ‘Agli Baar’, ‘Absent’, ‘Rahim Murge Pe Mat Ro’ (MOMA Paris, Best of Indian Contemporary Art), ‘Happy’, ‘Cycle’ and ‘Cheepatakadumpa’.

He is also a widely published author and graphic artist, having written a novel ‘Oonga’, an anthology of short stories ‘Forgetting’ (HarperCollins), a collection of graphic poetry ‘Occupying Silence’, and the bestselling children’s picture books ‘When Ali became Bajrangbali’ and ‘Why Paploo was perplexed’.

As the range of themes and styles suggest, Devashish seeks to find new and purposeful cinematic aesthetics with every film. A prolific writer and filmmaker, he has a number of screenplays of different genres ready and restless to be made into films. He founded Makhijafilm to find opportunities for unforeseen ways to move audiences – even while raising pertinent questions – through his stories.
